LOW-COST, EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT, ENERGY EFFICIENT, AND ECO-FRIENDLY HOUSING

SARID (www.sarid.net), in association with Javed Sultan, AIA, has come up with a proprietary and patented technology, which allows the use of non-structural granular material in seismic responsive structures. The structures are stable and can be designed to conform to Seismic Zone 4 ( highest ) requirements. All Building materials are locally available and the structures have a plastered and painted finish on both the exterior as well as the interior faces. The structures have very low maintenance cost, minimal life cycle cost, and high insulation value so saving on energy and operation cost. Currently the cost is projected at about Rs. 350/sf to Rs 400/sf for residential construction, and Rs. 550/sf to Rs. 600/sf for school and institutional construction(commercial). This is close to half the price of construction using existing technologies i.e. using steel or concrete masonry construction. The prices quoted above are 2005 prices for Islamabad, Pakistan. The above model (a field test model) demonstration room(12 by 12) was built in Islamabad in less than a week.

BIG DIG UPDATE:

Kinoo, Inc. is especially proud of our Boston employees working on the Central Artery Tunnel Project. The Charles River Bridge, 270 foot high, will be the widest cable-stayed bridge in the world, and the first in the U.S. with asymmetrical design. It is 1,457 feet long and will carry 10 lanes of traffic. The City of Boston remains thriving as the most challenging public works project in American history races ahead in its midst. The project completion date is 2004 and is now more than 60% built.

KINOO, INC. LANDS NIH CONTRACT:

In August, Kinoo, Inc. signed a CQDM contract with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. This contract has a value of $15 million over 5 years. We have been working on this for about two and a half years and are one of three firms who were successful in securing this contract, which includes Architectural/Engineering Design and Construction Management Services. With the first task order against this contract already received, the wheels have started to move and we are expected to pick up speed in 2001. Contributed by Siraj Khan

RIANG UPDATE:

Things are really buzzing at Quonset Point, RI airbase. Work is being performed concurrently on the following several projects: Aircraft Parking Apron, additions to Squadron Operations, Unheated Storage Building/Loading Ramps and Camp Fogarty Parking Lot. More recently, RIANG has accepted our concept submittal and, have authorized notice to proceed, with the Pre-Final Phase services of the Base Master Plan Update project. In August, V.P., Siraj Khan also had a successful meeting with the Associate Director of the National Guard Bureau in Arlington, VA.
